Winamp is one of the most famous quality media players on the market, around since the early days of the internet as we know it now and one of the first to support the nowadays standard MP3 audio file format. It comes with a lot of very interesting features that will let you enjoy your multimedia, especially your music, as it is supposed to.
1997 was the year of Winamp’s first release and it immediately featured support for playing back MP3 files, providing a minimal graphical user interface and playlist support. The next year Winamp featured also support for plugins, including for WAVE and CDDA, among others.
What followed were more plugins, a more usable playlist, a prominent equaliser and skins.
1999 was the year in which AOL bought Winamp and its popularity continued rising, as well as its development, resulting in new features added, such as modern skins, album art and localisation support, built-in iPod synchronisation, among others.
In 2013 version 5.666 was released and here you can download the demo version of it.
AOL announced the Winamp website and downloads would be shut down at the end of the same year. Nevertheless, the site didn’t shut down and Winamp was bought by a Belgian online radio aggregator called Radionomy, who informed a new release is soon to come.
Millions already use Winamp, which is available for multiple platforms, but here we offer you the version for Windows. Its latest version provides advanced media library access for everyone, with powerful control to manage and organize all songs and videos.
Winamp will enable you to rip all tracks from audio CDs to AAC, WMA, WAV or FLAC formats. Not only that, but you can even burn your own playlists as audio CDs.
As you can see, this media player is rich of features and options. Some are basic, other particularities. For example, you can enjoy Winamp's sound shifting between both speakers using the Balance Slider and many EQ Presets for smooth sound tuning.
Between the precise playback controls you’ll also find a button to automatically repeat a song without having to press the playback button again.
Winamp encompasses a practical Playlist Editor that lets you drag and drop files into the Media Library or any existing playlist from Windows Explorer. You can instantly get to an item in the list by just clicking it. What's more, all playlists are sorted by title, filename and path, recently played, recently added, among others.
Furthermore, it is possible to fully manage all popular portable media players without having to use other software. It will enable you to interact with iPods, PlayForSure Devices (P4S), USB thumbdrives, Creative Nomad/Zen/MuVo and ActiveSync Devices.
Compatibility is a strong point of Winamp, as it is able to reproduce the majority of video and audio formats, including WMV, MPG, AVI, MP3, MP4, and many more.
Moreover, Winamp offers even additional entertainment features by providing online services such as Shoutcast radio, AOL Radio, Shoutcast TV, Outstage Radio, Metro Lyrics and more.
The media player's default appearance is cool, though you can use skins to modify its look.
