Here we present Opus, an interactive audio codec. Opus is an open lossy audio format compression standardized through RFC 6716.

It is suitable for a wide range of audio applications, especially for interactive real-time applications over the internet, such as videoconferencing, remote live music performances, in-game chat and VoIP, among others.

Here are some of the features offered by Opus: bitrates from 6 to 510 kb/s, sampling rates from 8 to 48 kHz, frame sizes from 2.5 to 60 ms, CBR and VBR, audio bandwidth from narrowband to fullband, speech and music, mono and stereo, up to 255 channels (multistream frames), dynamically adjustable bitrate, audio bandwidth, frame size, good loss robustness and packet loss concealment (PLC), floating point and fixed-point implementation.
