MPlayer

If you're looking for a free and open source media player supporting a wide variety of formats, including Blu-ray (BD) discs, you might be interested in the product presented here, called MPlayer. It stands for “The Movie Player” and is available for various operating systems, but here we present its version for the Windows platform.

Besides supporting a wide range of media formats, including physical media, video (container) formats, audio, subtitles and image formats, this player can also save any streamed content to a file, as also a variety of protocols are supported. Furthermore it supports different output drivers and can be used for displaying TV from a TV card, among others.

So, not only can you reproduce almost any media source, you can even have a copy of streamed media saved onto your hard drive for later playback. Note that MPlayer is a command-line application, but several GUI front-ends are available.
