Elsewhere on Winportal we presented the IM and VoIP application called Skype, acquired by Microsoft in 2011. Now, those among you using Skype, either for business or for personal purposes, to have video chat conversations online, send SMS, call landlines, among others, should consider reading on because you might be interested in the dedicated application presented here, called Malden.

Basically, with Malden you’ll be able to display the online status of your Skype contacts right in your taskbar’s system tray area alongside the clock. Furthermore, it will provide you direct access for opening a dedicated chat window for the respective Skype user by simply clicking upon the shown status icon.

Note that this freeware utility requires to be set up using the command-line, so you must at least have some basic computer skills.
