Written By
Fusion Wol

Wake-on-LAN, also known as just WOL, is a networking standard that allows you to wake up a computer by sending it a specific network command message. If this WOL message, also known as 'magic packet' is received by the correct network card, then it will 'wake up' the computer. However, you need a special programs to send this kind of network messages, and one of the best is Fusion WOL. This is a very small, fast and reliable Wake-on-LAN client, that allows you to easily send WOL messages to other computers on your network.

For example, if you need to remotely boot an FTP server, but you don't have physical access to it, or if you are just too lazy too walk over to the server room, then this Fusion WOL will come in very handy. To send a WOL message to a computer, you only have a specify either its IP or MAC address. However, to use its IP, you first have to make sure the MAC address corresponding to that IP adress that is stored in your ARP cache, as WOL messages work on the second layer of the OSI model, and therefore the MAC address is required.
