If you do a search on the internet for this system file, you will see this is EXTREMELY common. If you have scanned your system for infections, etc., you will find it to be clean. The problem is MICROSOFT's insistence on forcing Microsoft Update. Not to be confused with "Windows" Update. I've had a similar problem on my WinXP Home system. I've used the Process Explorer to see what processes svchost.exe was hosting. It turned out that rvcrt4.dll was taking up all of the CPU, and also in the list was a 3rd party IPX-using program (Xfire in my case). I became bothered when my WinXP Home Edition started running sooooooooo slow even as I type, These letters take forever to appear long after I have typed them. Now my computer can not copy & paste anything, Sometimes I can not install anything, open Excel & Work are impossible. Error notification is due to svchost & svhost error. Thanks for your helps !

PLEASE help me out... Im STILL getting the Scvhost error. ive installed service pack 4 AND the security patch. ive also downloaded the worm blaster virus scanner from symantic. the scanner wont find anything. Im runnning win 2000 BTW. Thanks for your help.

Solution below. I had similar problems. Symptoms included svchost.exe errors, unable to disconnect from internet, shut down computer, download MS updates from automatic update, no cut & paste, no javascript execution etc It was a worm i think, one of the blaster worms. I have a problem with that svchost.exe too. That error of svc appears and i cant paste/copy enter some programms and ect. And i dont know what to do... Somehow i deleted these svchost.exe and dllhost.exe files in safe mode. Now the situation is even worse. ALways i enter the internet or no i cant paste/copy ect.
