Networks administrators with already some years on the job, experienced the quick spread of WiFi networks. These people probably have good memories of NetStumbler, a popular Windows WiFi scanner. The problem with that utility is that doesn't work well with modern 64-bit operating systems like Windows Vista or Windows 7. Fortunately, there is a similar but more advanced program that can do everything our old friend could do, and more. InSSIDer is a wireless network scanner that inspects surrounding WiFi networks, and provides useful information about them.
InSSIDer features an user-friendly interface in which you can see all the networks, that are detected by your wireless network. It also shows the SSID and MAC address, as well as the channel on which a network is working, the type of security/encryption it features, and statistics about the speed rate of the data transfer. And can sort the results according to any of these criteria.
