AutoCAD is an application that is used for computer-aided design (CAD), to create 2D and 3D drawings. Since its early years up to the present it is considered as one of the best CAD solutions available on the market.

AutoCAD can be used to create and design schemes, maps, plans and many other things. It isn't the easiest software program for beginners to start using, but tutorials are included in the release, many websites offer additional information and videos, and countless support centers and educational institutions provide dedicated teaching courses all over the world.

AutoCAD has evolved and matured over more than three decades

The history of AutoCAD goes way back to the late seventies. In 1977 it started with Interact CAD which was released in 1979. Referred to by Autodesk as MicroCAD in early documents, a first version of AutoCAD was demonstrated and released in 1982. That’s when the renown DWG file format was introduced. DWG stands for drawing and is a binary format which has become one of the de facto standards annex native format for many CAD packages nowadays available.

At the time of writing we’re in the year 2015 and the version of Autodesk’s AutoCAD is the 2015 one, being the 29th generation of this application.
